Instructions: How to Make a Simple Ramadan Lantern Craft with Paper
Step 1: Wet your paper with water using a large paintbrush. Make sure the paper is evenly damp but not soaking. I used an A4 sized watercolor paper, but you can also use white cardstock or thick paper.

Step 2: Create your sunset. While the paper is still wet, apply yellow paint at the top. Blend orange and red in the middle. Add purple and blue at the bottom. Let the colors blend naturally on the wet paper.

Step 3: Once the paint is dry, fold the paper in half lengthwise. Starting from the folded edge, leave an empty space about 2 cm (approximately 0.8 inches) from the top. Then, using a ruler, draw vertical lines spaced 1.5 cm apart (approximately 0.6 inches) across the folded paper.

Step 4: Cut along these lines to create slits.

Step 5: Unfold the paper and roll into a cylinder shape so that the sunset design is facing the outside. the dry painted paper . Secure both edges with a stapler (alternatively, you can also glue).

Step 6: Attach the string handle. Cut a piece of string and glue each end to opposite sides at the top of your lantern.

That’s it! you’ve made your Ramadan lantern craft!
Tips & Variations: Alternative Ways to Make Your Ramadan Lantern
- Add decorations: Stick on gems, washi tape, moon and star stickers, or glitter for extra sparkle.
- Use different paints: Try acrylic paints, pastels, or even markers if you don’t have watercolors.
- Add a handle: Attach a paper strip or ribbon to the top instead of string.
- Make it glow: Place a led light inside for a soft lantern glow. (Always use safe flameless candles.)
- Change the size: Scale up your lantern with bigger paper to make larger statement lanterns, or shrink them with smaller paper to create mini lanterns.
