Arabic Names for Birds
When I was growing up, back home, my family had a gray parrot (Psittacus). Later we decided to get another one to keep company so the first one would not be bored hehe. They would imitate my grandmother’s voice (may Allah bless her) when she would answer the phone (aloo) and they would also chime Salam Alaiykum when a guest would enter the living room.
These were fun memories I had as a kid and funnily enough I fondly remember naming them Kaskoo (which I know is not super original).
Later my grandmother (may Allah bless her) and then the parrots passed away and my aunt never really got over it. To her, the parrots were a way she remembered her mother. It was an entire decade where the parrots and my grandmother lived together. Kind of like the essence or life of the house.
I’m not sharing this to be depressing, but I find out that you can really have special bonds with birds. They truly become a companion to you.
Don’t worry, it gets better. Now she has a bulbul named Lulli. And that fluffball is a cutie. Albeit, a feisty one.
Also, I kind of grew obsessed with him. Whenever I would visit I would try to pet him (without getting pecked haha), only to realize the [HE] was a [SHE]. Whoop. Errm.. I should’ve known from the name.
Ok enough about me, this post shares bird species names in Arabic. I’ve also included bird pet names for both genders, fun English ones, and female and male Arabic bird names. That way you can hopefully be more original than Kaskoo.
