The Reality About Halal Hotels in London
I’ve visited London many times, and what I can say is that most hotels in London aren’t fully halal. They might have halal breakfast options. But their kitchens still prepare pork and serve alcohol.
I always end up booking places with kitchenettes. This way I can cook my own meals.
After staying at different places, I found that aparthotels and hotels with kitchenettes won hands down.
Here’s why:
Full kitchens mean:
- Cook exactly what you want
- No worrying about cross contamination with non halal foods
- Save money
- Kids can eat familiar foods; great for families
- Can always eat at halal restaurants
I also found that airbnb’s are not what they used to be in terms of both safety and price point, so I tend to gravitate away from those anyways, where hotels with kitchenettes are my go-to now.

How to Book a Hotel in London- Figure out Your Priorities
London hotels are slowly getting better for Muslim guests. But you still need to be wise about choosing and figuring out your priorities. Before booking, decide what matters most for your trip:
Depending on how much you care about being near a mosque v.s major landmarks.
Write down what are your priorities for your trip:
1. Is a hotel near the mosque important for you? Are you going to visit the mosque every day?
2. OR will you be visiting the mosque once and prefer to be closer to major landmarks.
Don’t forget London transport is simple and you can get around pretty quickly and easily.
It all depends on your preferences.
In this post I recommend both.
My Top Picks for Halal-Friendly Hotels in London
1. Monarch House – Serviced apartments. I loved staying here with family. It’s at an excellent location at Kensington High Street (one of my fav. Shopping streets- quieter than the crowded touristy Oxford street. It also had charity stores which I love visiting).
Instead of getting single rooms at an average hotel with small rooms for 5, it can be a better deal to get a more spacious apartment (with your own kitchenette and oven so you can cook your own meals)- this is what we did.
I loved that Whole Foods Market was only a 8 min walk. Seriously could LIVE there. And it was only a 6 mins walk from High Street Kensington station, which was amazing.
2. Nox Kensington – I also stayed here at Kensington. Safe area. 14 mins from Shepheard’s Bush station, this was a more budget option- perfect for 2 people. It has fully equipped kitchenettes with microwave so you can cook your own halal meals.
I found it very convenient. The room is an average size for London, but it does the job especially since you will be out and about the whole day.
I also asked the reception prior to arrival if I could get a package delivered and they had no problem holding on to it.
3. Aparthotel Adagio London City East – This is an apartment hotel. It’s only 3 mins walk from East London mosque. It’s new and just opened in 2025. It includes a fully equipped kitchen to prepare your own halal meals. They also have larger apartments that can accommodate up to 6 people.
While I haven’t stayed here, I have stayed in Adagio Aparthotels in Montpellier, France (twice) and loved their affordable price point, kitchenettes, and more spacious than average rooms in the city.

IMPORTANT: What to Write When Booking a Hotel (Steal My Script)
One of the worst things is stepping out of the elevator, getting your hotel card out and realizing your room is right next to the elevator. Ugh. Major PAIN. This has happened to me. The noise of people getting in and out and chatting is not the best.
Bonus: the ice machine was also right next to the elevator too. So yes I had the joy of listening to grinding ice formation every hour. And no Elsa was not there to sing “Let it Go”, which would have spared my earbuds some trauma. In this case “the cold did bother me anyways”. Since then I’ve learnt my lesson. Here’s the exact note I send with every booking:
Booking.com has a section to leave a note. I find it super useful to just pop this in.
“Hello. We are very noise sensitive. Kindly request a room away from the elevator and on an upper floor. Would also appreciate the removal of any alcohol in room (if any). Thank you 😊”
This simple note works 80% of the time. It’s also very useful if you are a woman and you don’t feel safe right next to the elevator. In some cases, hotels will upgrade you if they don’t have a quiet room available (although rare It did happen to me ONCE in Iceland ).
And we got upgraded to the room facing the view and not the majestic parking lot (haha). SAFE TO GIVE IT A TRY. Like are we on to something or what?
Don’t forget if you are expecting an amenity like a shattaf or a bath-tub to confirm that in the note.
Would love to hear your tips and what works. Or if you have another SECRET script. Where have you stayed in London?
